SYDNEY NEEDS THE NORTH-WEST RAIL LINK

Last week the Federal Government knocked back the NSW State Governments request for funding assistance for the North-West rail.

They suggested more buses on that route.  Anyone that has driven down the M2 in peak hour (or taken 45 minutes to travel 3 kilometres down Castle Hill Road) can tell you the issue is about getting traffic off the road, not putting more buses on it!

With more land being released for housing in the north-west it is only going to continue to get worse.

The Federal Government has revealed a complete lack of comprehension in relation to this issue and as usual has ignored the needs of north western Sydney – a Liberal strong hold.

I admit to a vested interest.

I live in Glenhaven and for the pleasure of living in such a beautiful part of Sydney I pay more than $500 a month in tolls.  Seriously!

Yes, I could catch a bus, but to get home I need to leave the city by 6.45, and frankly I don’t have that type of job.

The Federal Government came to power on promises of improved infra-structure for the States, but then again they came to power on all kinds of promises that they have broken, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

They have $2.1 billion ear-marked for the Epping to Parramatta rail link, yet our State Government believes the North West rail is a more effective solution to the traffic issues both for the North Western and Western suburbs.  Why would the government ignore the recommendation of the state given they are the ones closest to the issue?
